Second GA/FL Maxxis Dirt Race - Winter Series Jan. 7, 2012 - Callahan, FL - Logan Lane and Christian Lee rolled into the Callahan Speedway Friday night to prepare for the second race in the 2012 Georgia / Florida Maxxis Dirt Winter Series. Both drivers came in with the goal to hold on to their First and second place standing in the points after the first race of the season. "Callahan has always been a tricky track for the team," said Logan Lane Sr. "We have trouble getting good results here even when we are running well." Logan and Christian were showing mid pack results during the Saturday morning practice. John May, Competition Director for the LLR Team consulted with Crew Chief, Collin Lee about making some setup changes and tire changes. "We discovered that the track had a new layer of clay put down so the old treatment on the tires was not working," John May stated after the race. "We made some setup and tire changes and the boys moved to the front of the field." During qualifying the changes had not been made to the karts yet. Logan managed to qualify fourth and Christian struggled bringing in a tenth place starting position. By race time, the adjustments had been made to the karts. Logan and Christian made gains right away. Both karts reacted to the changes showing fast and consistent lap times. Logan worked his way into the third position putting pressure on the second place kart when a caution came out at lap 8. Christian had moved up into the sixth position. The field gathered back up and the green flag waived once again. Logan took advantage of a good start and drove down inside of the second place kart into turn one and stuck the nose of the kart just inside of the first place kart. Trying to hold his position, Logan and his number 88, Axis Racing Kart, got pinched down by the first place kart causing him to be pulled up onto the back. Both karts pushed up to the top of the track sliding out of control off of turn two. No caution was thrown as both drivers were able to keep the karts moving. Logan drove back up and began running fast lap times with the hope of another caution. Christian calmly and collectively moved himself forward through the field, getting closer to the leader although the laps were running down. "Logan drove like he was on fire and the kart was handling great," said Logan Sr. "This is the contrast and compliment between Logan and Christian that I refer to as Fire and Ice." Logan finished eighth and Christian finished third. This dropped Logan from second to fourth place in the point's standings. He is eighty points behind Christian who maintained the number one position in the series. Christian is now 65 points in front of the second place driver, Hunter Reynolds. The LLR team has two weeks off then they go to Hurricane Raceway in Alma, GA on January 28th for the third Georgia / Florida Maxxis Series Race. Newsletter Archive |
