LEE EXTENDS POINTS LEADS AS LANE WINS FIRST RACE OF 2012 1-28-2012 - Alma, Ga. - The LLR race team arrived at the Hurricane Raceway in Alma, Ga. early Saturday morning for the third race of the GA/FL Maxxis Winter Dirt Series. Christian Lee entered the track as the current points champion in the Junior Box Stock Division with his teammate Logan Lane in fourth after a tough finish at the Callahan Speedway a few weeks prior. The drivers and crew showed great signs of success during practice. Both the #88 and #9 Logan Lane Racing, SignDesign, TOC, Dr. David Bellamy karts were showing to be the fastest two karts on the track. The crew made final preparations to get ready for qualifying. During the Jr. Box Stock Division qualifying session, the drivers set themselves up nicely with the #9 kart of Christian Lee qualifying second and the #88 kart of Logan Lane qualifying third. Logan and Christian came off of the track with great enthusiasm going into the next round of qualifying for the Pro Junior Box Stock Division. Christian set the second fastest time in this round with Logan struggling starting in the sixth position to start the Pro race. "I have confidence in my crew and drivers that no matter where we start in the field we can get to the front and be a contender for the win," said Team Owner, Logan Lane. "The boys have overcome adversity before and the competition is tough but I feel at race time they will have their game faces on." During the Jr. Box Stock Division race Logan teamed up on the bumper of Christian creating a black and orange tandem putting pressure on the leader. Due to extremely sandy conditions outside of the racing groove one small mistake could cause a kart to go spinning off of the turn. Christian would slip off of turn two putting Logan in the second position with his sights set on the leader. Christian was able to save the kart and get back in line about mid pack. Christian worked his way back up to his teammate in quick order as the black and orange LLR tandem was once again hooked back up. This time it would be Logan leading Christian. Logan sliped entering turn three causing him to spin off the track with only two laps left to go. Logan not be able to get the kart back onto the track, had to settle for a twelfth place finish. Christian brought home a third place finish extending his lead in the points to 115 points ahead of the second place driver. Logan turned the fasted lap times during the race and had a great run for the win but a tough break at the end of the race sent him spinning out of control landing him in the seventh place position in the points 170 back from his teammate. Logan stated after the Jr. Box Stock race "I had that race won. The kart was so fast and I missed my line hitting the sandy edge in turn three. I just couldn't save the kart. I will not make that mistake in the pro race tonight." Logan made a statement and the determination was clear in his eyes as he sat on the grid ready to take the green flag for the Pro race. Christian sitting in the cat bird seat, starting second set his sights on a win as he came up short of the win earlier in the evening. The green flag dropped and the pole sitter pulled away from the pack by a few kart lengths on Christian. As the tire pressures increased Christian began to close the gap on the leader. Logan seemed to be applying a more methodical approach to this race as he picked of one driver at the time. Logan showed that he could run consistent laps and hit his marks each time he entered and exited the turn. A crash would develop in turn one only five laps into the race causing half the field to have damage to the karts. Logan sustained body damage to the nose of the kart. "The kart did not seem to be too damaged and if the nose would hang on for the rest of the race we felt Logan still had a chance to win the race. He was turning the fastest laps on the track and was gaining ground on the leader." said John May, Competition Director for LLR. The caution flag lined the karts up single file as they came down to the green flag again. Christian made an aggressive move on the leader going into turn one getting his kart underneath the leader. Logan saw this as an opportunity and drove his kart to the bottom of the track pushing his teammate through turn two. The two karts would emerge out of turn two in the lead once again. Christian leading Logan in the tandem, the two opened the gap on the competition by almost a full straight away. With about eight laps to go Christian pulled high on the front stretch making way for Logan to take over the lead. It seemed that something had gone wrong with the #9 karts motor. Logan took the lead at this point and never looked back. The kart came through the turns with the broken nose bouncing off of the tracks clay surface. This did not seem to slow the kart down and definitely did not hinder Logan's determination to win. Logan took the checker flag pumping his fist in the air with excitement as he crossed the start finish line. This is the first win of the 2012 season for Logan. The LLR team looks to take this momentum into the Dyno Cams,Tri State All Star Series at the Possum Kingdom Super Speedway in Belton, SC. on February 11th.
